BILL FRISELL: Guitar in the Space Age (USA)

Bill Frisell – electric guitars
Greg Leisz – »steel« guitar, electric guitar
Tony Scherr – el. bass
Kenny Wollesen – drums, percussion

Bill Frisell is one of the most wanted guitarist of our time: Bono, John Zorn and Brian Eno are just a few musicians he worked with, but this is, as Stereophile wrote, »yesterday's news, since Frisell has shown in the last decade, that he is one of the most important composers of American guitar music after Wes Montgomery«.

There are not many who can combine everything American guitar music is made of (blues, country, bluegrass etc.) in such a creative manner as Frisell has done it for three decades. His vast discography contains a number of albums with »americano«, which is the main feature of his recent project since it brings back music from the times when men travelled to the moon, the electrical guitar has only been making its way into popular music, and when creativity was still allowed.

The Byrds, The Kinks, The Beach Boys, also Chet Atkins and Pete Seeger were the first musicians influencing Frisell in his teenage years. Of course the band is more than just a tribute to teenage influences: Frisell chose his long-time colleagues, congenial drummer Kenny Wollesen, and bassist Tony Sherr, and the guitar is in the hands of Greg Leisz, an exceptional guitarist who is known to have played in the bands of Joni Mitchell, k.d. lang, Emmylou Harris, and Beck.

They say Frisell plays the guitar like Miles Davis played the trumpet: gently, but passionate, with typical sounds coming from everywhere and going who knows where. The concert of his newest band is a must see for everyone who enjoys electrical guitar and classical American pop and rock music.
