AL DI MEOLA: Elysium & More Unplugged (USA)

American guitarist with Italian roots, Al Di Meola, is one of the most influential musicians at the crossroads of jazz fusion music and Latin-American influences.

He reached international success with one of the most powerful groups from the 70's, Return to Forever, to which he was invited by pianist Chick Corea, with the other members being Stanley Clarke and Lenny White. His own early albums were received by guitarists as sacred objects, and soon Al Di Meola was one of the fastest and swift electrical guitarists. Later he nearly abandoned the electrical guitar and dedicated himself to the acoustic one, while recording the best-selling acoustic guitar album of all times, legendary »Friday night in San Francisco«, together with John McLaughlin, and Paco de Lucia.

During his more-than-thirty-years-long career he tried out different music genres, but is mostly known for his Latin-American influences and fusion jazz. Guitar Player Magazine declared him the best jazz guitarist for four times.

Recently Al Di Meola returned to his roots, to electrical guitars, and the music of bands like The Beatles. At his premiere in Maribor he will be presenting his new album Elysium in an unplugged version.
