Bringing Maribor back to life!

Friday

29. 05. 2015

Maribor’s old city center is a maze of stories, waiting to be discovered. Join us in doing so!

The Drava River holds a special place in most people’s hearts. Centuries ago, the first inhabitants started building Maribor on Drava’s banks. Through time, the river has shaped many people’s lives and many still feel connected to it, since it provides them with work, food, and pleasure. It also happens to be that Festival Lent began on Drava’s banks and therefore honored one of most beautiful parts of Maribor.

Even though Lent area still remains the center of the festival, this project has grown out of its proportions and spread all across the city. This year, we will be bringing to life not just the river promenade but also the squares, streets and courtyards of our beautiful city.

Discovering the hidden urban gems

Many of Maribor's squares, streets and courtyards will transform into cultural venues during the festival. The opening day of the festival will also be the first day of the Ana Desetnica street theatre.

The Courtyards of Maribor will also offer a diverse content by showing the hidden art of the city. There will be exhibitions, dance performances and poetry nights along the Gosposka and Koroška street. The aim of using Maribor’s busiest streets is to allow people that live, work and create there to introduce their work and therefore help shaping the identify of Maribor.

Maribor through the eyes of youth

There will be a new venue for all that like to spend their summer nights under the starry sky. During the first week of the festival (June 26 to July 2), the center Tkalka/Weaver will host an outdoor cinema. There will be screenings every night at 21:30, organized by students of II. gimnazija Maribor, Secondary school for Design Maribor, High school Slovenska Bistrica, and Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The program will also include best productions of the Student Cuts film festival.

The courtyard of the building at Tkalski prehod street, which houses over 27 organizations and 8 businesses, will help introduce Maribor through the eyes of its artists and visitors. There will also be workshops taking place before the screenings every nigh.
