SHARDS - experimental film

An experimental narrative film using methods from the Soviet montage theory to tell the story. A man meets a woman to play a game of chess. The film aims to relate a narrative with barely any dialogue or sound, using editing, tempo manipulation, and different lenses, while allowing actors limited expression. The result is a montage technique, which attempts to demonstrate that editing does not only make a story possible, it also tells it. The title has a personal significance to the director. "Shards" symbolize all the snippets of video material that were assembled into a sum bigger than its individual parts. It felt like putting together the shards of a broken vase.
